Deep Cleanings

If your teeth feel loose or your gums bleed when you brush, you most likely have periodontal (gum) disease to some degree. This persistent infection has become a serious health problem and is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults. Prevention is the key to avoiding gum disease, and at Cliff Dental Clinic, we offer the treatments you need to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Our entire professional team is committed to helping you achieve excellent oral health and overall wellness. We are conscientious about promoting regular exams and dental cleanings because we know that periodontal disease can take a serious toll on the health of your teeth and gums even before you’re aware that it’s present.

Why Periodontal Disease Is a Problem

Bacteria-filled plaque is always building up between your teeth and under your gums. You may notice that your gums are red and inflamed, which is the reaction of your body to these bacteria. Without treatment, the bone around your teeth recedes and a pocket forms between your teeth and gums. The tooth loosens over time, and eventually it may be lost.

Studies indicate that there may also be a connection between gum disease and other health problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, bacterial pneumonia, and increased risk during pregnancy. Researchers are now working to determine if it is the inflammation and bacteria associated with gum disease affects these bodily diseases and conditions.

We Have the Treatment You Need

Regular professional cleanings are essential for maintaining oral health because no matter how well you brush, you can’t reach all the places where plaque and tartar hide. During a routine cleaning, our hygienist will clear away this material and check for signs of gum disease. In its earliest stages, gum disease can usually be treated with a series of follow-up cleanings.

If the hygienist finds signs of advanced periodontal disease, a deep cleaning may be necessary. During a deep cleaning, an ultrasonic wand is used to gently clear away any infection that has developed under the gumline. This procedure helps gum tissue to heal and periodontal pockets to shrink.

After the deep cleaning has been completed, the hygienist will review proper oral hygiene practices and recommend frequent periodic cleanings to prevent infection from returning.

Prevention Is the Key to Great Oral Health

Good at-home oral hygiene, combined with regular checkups and cleanings at our Graham dental office, significantly reduces the chance that you will develop gum disease. It is easier to follow these simple steps now, rather than putting them off and risking more serious problems from developing in the future.

Our professional team does everything possible to make each visit stress-free and enjoyable so that you can feel good about keeping up with important preventive treatments. You will always feel welcome here, and we will treat you with the individualized attention you deserve
