Root Canals

If you’re like most people, the thought of a root canal can fill you with dread. We admit that the procedure has earned a pretty bad reputation, but we’re happy to tell you that root canals at Cliff Dental Clinic are nothing like the uncomfortable treatment you may remember from the past. With advances in dental techniques and technology, root canal treatment is now a straightforward, stress-free procedure.

Dr. Caddell and our team are always looking for ways to make your treatment more efficient and comfortable so that you feel good about taking the steps to maintain your good oral health. Our goal is to help you feel welcome and at-home when you visit us because no procedure should ever feel overwhelming.

Your root canal can become infected
for a number of reasons.

Why Do I Need a Root Canal?

We understand that root canal treatment isn’t really a pleasurable idea, but it is a procedure that is necessary to prevent tooth loss and relieve pain.

Deep within the root of your tooth is the root canal, which contains dental pulp, tissue, and nerves. If severe decay or periodontal infection reaches this area, you are at great risk for losing the tooth. At this point, the only option we have for preventing tooth loss is root canal therapy.

If you’ve ever experienced the pain of an infected root canal, you know that it can be excruciating and virtually impossible to endure. Getting prompt treatment will eliminate this pain and preserve your tooth.

What Happens During a Root Canal?

The purpose of a root canal is to clear away any infection by removing the affected pulp and tissue. Despite all the hype, a root canal is actually pretty straightforward – Dr. Caddell will remove the infection, fill the space with dental material, and seal the tooth. If the tooth has been severely weakened by decay, he may recommend a dental crown to protect and strengthen the tooth.

Stress-Free Treatment Options

All of this information is good to know, but you may still feel nervous about the prospect of root canal treatment. If so, we can recommend sedation options that are customized to fit your level of anxiety. Dr. Caddell has performed many successful root canals, and our patients often report that the experience was not nearly as stressful as they expected it to be.
