Oral Surgery

If you’re facing the prospect of oral surgery and feel apprehensive, we understand. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when thinking about what may or may not happen during your procedure. But at Cliff Dental Clinic, our compassionate team will work hard to make your experience as stress-free as possible.

Dr. Caddell has significant experience in performing many types of oral surgery and is knowledgeable about the techniques that will make your oral surgery safe and efficient. Our warm and friendly office environment, combined with advances in dental medicine, help us to perform surgical procedures that ensure your comfort before, during, and after treatment.

Sometimes oral surgery is the right solution.

Reasons for Oral Surgery

Our goal is to provide you with treatments that keep your teeth whole and healthy for a long time. But extraction may be necessary for the following reasons:

  • Severe decay deep within a tooth
  • Significant loss of tooth structure
  • A severe abscess that results from root canal infection.
  • Extensive periodontal disease

Aside from tooth extraction, oral surgery may necessary to prepare your jaw for denture placement or to resolve a failing root canal.

Compassionate Care

Our compassionate, friendly team is sensitive to the fact that you may approach oral surgery with some anxiety. We find that, in many cases, fear of the unknown is a factor when it comes to the level of anxiety you feel about oral surgery.

Before we proceed with treatment, Dr. Caddell and our team will take the time to talk to you about what you can expect so that there are no surprises.

Sedation That Fits Your Needs

With all the options available for sedation, there is no reason for you to feel stressed or anxious about your surgery. We can customize your sedation to ensure that you feel completely comfortable and at-ease throughout the procedure.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation: Nitrous oxide is a very gentle but effective sedation method. It does not put you to sleep, but it dulls your senses so that you don’t feel any anxiety about what’s happening around you. A member of our sedation team will be with you to ensure that you feel calm and relaxed. Since nitrous oxide is so gentle, you will not feel any after-effects of the sedation.

Oral Conscious Sedation: If you experience greater anxiety, Dr. Caddell may decide that oral sedation is appropriate. He will prescribe a calming medication to be taken about an hour before your appointment so that you will be less anxious when you arrive at our office (if you are using oral sedation, a friend or family member will need to drive you to and from your appointment). By combining oral sedation with nitrous oxide, we can provide you with a completely stress-free experience.

Your Comfort is Our First Priority

You can feel confident that the team at our Graham dental office is completely focused on your needs during treatment. When we’re working with you, you are our most important patient. We are here to answer your questions and act as your support system during more complex procedures like oral surgery.

Please contact our office if you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation to discuss your oral surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

We want to make sure that you are always comfortable, so we provide nitrous oxide as well as oral sedation at our Graham dental office. Both are very effective, and we'll choose the option that is most appropriate for your specific needs.

Nitrous oxide is a very mild form of sedation that works well for the majority of patients with mild anxiety. You simply sit back and breathe, and soon you will drift into a comfortable and relaxed state. Nitrous oxide will not put you to sleep or knock you out – it will just dull your senses so that the sights and sounds around you fade into the background.

Oral conscious sedation is helpful if you experience greater anxiety during treatment. Before your scheduled appointment, Dr. Caddell will prescribe a calming medication for you to take about an hour before you arrive at our office.

We can combine nitrous oxide and oral sedation for the ultimate in stress-free treatment. A member of our caring professional team will monitor your sedation and stay with you before, during, and after your procedure. Please note that if we use oral conscious sedation, you will need a designated driver to get to and from your appointment.

Please contact our Graham dental office if you would like more information about our sedation options.

Dr. Caddell performs many types of oral surgery procedures, including tooth extraction. Our goal is to keep your teeth in a healthy state so that they remain intact for life. But circumstances may make tooth extraction our only option. If necessary, we can do emergency extractions the same day at our Graham dental office.

There are several situations where extraction may be necessary:

  • Severe decay or periodontal infection that has damaged most of the tooth
  • Dental trauma or injury
  • Fracture of the tooth below the gumline
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Preparation for orthodontics or dentures

We know that tooth extraction can be stressful for many patients, and we are pleased to offer sedation dentistry to help you get through the procedure with as little anxiety as possible. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation are both effective options that are helpful for most people. Dr. Caddell will discuss these options and help you make the decision as to which is best for you.

Our compassionate team of professionals has assisted with many extractions and has the experience needed to make sure you stay calm and comfortable. If you are in pain and believe that you may need a tooth pulled, please contact our Graham dental office as soon as possible. We will see you as quickly as we can to make sure you get the relief you need.
