What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants have quickly become the gold standard for tooth replacement because they are so similar in structure to a natural tooth. The primary difference between dental implants and other options for tooth replacement is that the implant is actually placed in your jaw.
This tiny post is made of titanium, which is called “biocompatible” because your body easily accepts it, allowing the implant to bond with the jawbone. Once the implant bonds with the bone in your jaw, we can attach a dental restoration like a crown or denture. The restoration is securely fastened to the implant, creating a replacement tooth that’s perfectly functional and stable.
How Are Mini Dental Implants Used?
Mini dental implants function in exactly the same way as a regular implant. However, minis are really tiny, no larger than a toothpick, so they’re relatively easy to place in the bone. Mini implants are used for smaller teeth and to hold dentures securely in place.
Is the Implant Procedure Painful?
The procedure for mini dental implants can be done quickly – in as little as 45 minutes. Since mini dental implants are so small, they cause less trauma to the bone when implanted, so you don’t have to wait months for the site to heal. Many patients have their implants and restorations placed in the same day and are able to leave our Graham dental office eating, speaking, and smiling normally.
We can perform the implant procedure comforting using only local anesthesia. However, we also offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation for your complete comfort.
