Dentures

Today's dentures look remarkably realistic.

Do you need dentures but worry that they will look false and unnatural? Are your old dentures causing pain because they’re constantly slipping and shifting? In either case, Dr. Caddell can help you regain your unique, beautiful smile without discomfort and irritation.

Many people resist the idea of dentures because they remember the “false teeth” their grandparents wore. But today’s dentures are made to be beautiful as well as functional. Using materials that were not available in your grandparents’ day, we can create dentures that are comfortable and actually enhance your appearance.

What Do Dentures Do?

Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth. Basically, we offer a couple dentures options:

At Cliff Dental Clinic, we would choose complete dentures for patients missing all their teeth. These are either placed right after your teeth are extracted (immediate dentures) or several weeks later (conventional dentures) weeks later when healing is complete.

Partial dentures are used to fill the space left by missing teeth and help to prevent other teeth from changing position.

If you have older dentures, you may wonder why they no longer fit properly. Depending how old they are, they may even make it difficult to speak and eat without constant shifting and irritation.

This usually occurs because the shape of your jaw changes over time, and dentures that were made to fit perfectly at that time have now become loose. Another factor is that years ago dentures were made using a very rigid material that didn’t conform perfectly to your mouth even when they were new.

Dentures Customized to Fit Your Needs

Whether you need to replace old, worn-out dentures or are having dentures placed for the first time, we know you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the beautiful results we can achieve using modern materials.

We create dentures that look natural with your skin, hair, and even eye color. Dr. Caddell will work closely with you to make sure that your dentures are made to your exact specifications. The result is dentures that look like your own teeth and revitalize your smile.

The primary complaint with dentures has always been shifting and slipping that causes embarrassment and irritation. At Cliff Dental Clinic, we can easily resolve this problem by using mini dental implants that snap on to the denture for complete stability and a secure fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

It can take some time to get used to wearing your new dentures, especially if it's your first time. At our Graham dental office, we’ve placed a lot of dentures, and we can assure you that everyone who has ever worn dentures felt the same way in the beginning.

You’ve probably noticed that any new dental work feels odd at first, and dentures are no different. The important thing to remember is not to get discouraged as you go through the process. Be patient with yourself and follow these simple guidelines:

Speaking: This is probably one of the trickiest parts of wearing new dentures. It’s normal to feel like they’re going to slip and slide as you speak. This is one of those situations where the saying “practice makes perfect” really makes sense. Practice at home, reading aloud or speaking to your dog, and pretty soon you will notice that you are gradually adjusting to the sensation of speaking with dentures.

Eating: Start with soft foods that don’t require much chewing and cut your food into small pieces. As you become accustomed to eating with dentures, you can start to eat more solid foods.

Everything else: Aren’t you happy to be able to smile and laugh again without embarrassment? Of course, you will need to give yourself time to adjust, and if you feel your dentures starting to slip, take a deep breath and know that this too shall pass!

Patience and persistence are the key. Don’t be too hard on yourself if your dentures seem to resist you! Pretty soon you will find that you have become comfortable with your dentures and know how to control them as you move your mouth.

The team at our Graham dental office is here to help you through the process. As treatment progresses, we will talk to you about the changes you can expect with new dentures, and how to work through the little kinks that can be frustrating at first.
